==Explanation==
This comic was published the day after the 2008 presidential election in the US. Cueball has been closely following the election for over a year and a half, and he seems to be relieved that it's over. Now that the election has passed, he does not have to follow the many different opinion polls, number-crunching analyses, and news clips about people like {{w|Joe the Plumber}} that he has kept close track of during the election season. As soon as he says this, however, he starts to search for information on the 2012 election, suggesting that his political obsession has not at all passed.

The alt-text is about statistician {{w|Nate Silver}}, who correctly predicted the outcomes of 49 of the 50 states in the 2008 election on his blog. It jokes that having him predict the outcomes of life decisions would make choosing the best thing to do very easy.
}}

==Explanation==
Cueball has tried to play an elaborate hoax on a woman involving wood chips that match the composition of the wood used to build a 19th-century ghost ship called the Mary Celeste. Unfortunately, the woman has thrown them out instead. This causes Cueball to realize that he needs to rethink the complicated way in which he creates hoaxes, because the people he is trying to trick do not follow through with his elaborate plans.

The alt-text suggests that he also set up some kind of chemical match with the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud of Turin is a famous artifact containing the ghostly image of a face said by some to have been used as Jesus's burial cloth.

==Transcript==
Cueball leans on desk; Woman sits behind desk.

:Cueball: Did you ever figure out those mysterious woodchips?
:Woman: The ones in the hallway? No.
:Cueball: You didn't suspect that they matched the timber used in 1861 to build the "ghost ship" Mary Celeste, prompting you to send them to a lab for analysis, the results of which raised new and stranger questions?
:Woman: No, I threw them out. Why?

My hoaxes need to get a lot less subtle.

==Explanation==
The man in this comic (evidently the author himself) has tried to play an elaborate hoax on a woman involving wood chips that match the composition of the wood used to build a 19th-century ghost ship called the Mary Celeste. Unfortunately, the woman has thrown them out instead. This causes the man to realize that he needs to rethink the complicated way in which he creates hoaxes, because the people he is trying to trick do not follow through with his elaborate plans.

The alt-text suggests that he also set up some kind of chemical match with the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud of Turin is a famous artifact containing the ghostly image of a face said by some to have been used as Jesus's burial cloth.

==Transcript==
Man leans on desk; Woman sits behind desk.

:Man: Did you ever figure out those mysterious woodchips?
:Woman: The ones in the hallway? No.
:Man: You didn't suspect that they matched the timber used in 1861 to build the "ghost ship" Mary Celeste, prompting you to send them to a lab for analysis, the results of which raised new and stranger questions?
:Woman: No, I threw them out. Why?

My hoaxes need to get a lot less subtle.
