Given the context, the title text may also be a reference to "key parties" held in the 1970's by committed but non-monogamous couples, colloquially known as "swingers". Assuming the attendees were hetero couples, the men would place their car keys in a container such as a bag or a fishbowl, and after several hours of socializing, the women would each pull a key from the container and go home with the owner of said keys. The activities that followed were sometimes limited by a gentleman's agreement beforehand, but given enough alcohol, sometimes people overstepped those bounds. This comic is pretty well explained in the caption and the image text, but I'll extrapolate a little bit. Here we have two ex-students taunting their old Algebra teacher because they have never used Algebra since they left (I'll assume) middle or high school.

Randall's argument here is that what part of your schooling that you use after you get out of school is all optional and up to you. Lots of people use math after they graduate, lots of people use their music lessons, etc. Lots of people don't use anything they learned in school in "real life".

The student also appears to be committing a logical error in that she assumes her math classes only taught her how to solve orderly lists of parameters ending with "Solve for x." Many everyday tasks involve basic mathematical calculations, but we are left to devise our own calculations. For example, to turn one's apartment into a [[150: Grownups|ball pit]], one must calculate or at least estimate (another skill learned in math class) the floor space of the room, the desired depth for the balls to cover, the space occupied by one crate of balls, and the cost of such a crate. While the operations are basic arithmetic, the ability to recognize unknowns and sort them into a meaningful statement comes from algebra.

{{w|Klout}} is a site that seeks to measure your "influence" on social media networks. Users grant other users +Ks for certain things. They also give away things to the users with the highest Klout scores. Universally, it is regarded as meaning absolutely nothing. The people that are really wrapped up in the score are typically not well-liked. An usage example of its use is ironically, like giving someone a +K for knowledge about "Pitbull". (The Bud Light promoter and producer/rapper/musician, etc., not the type of dog.)

The character appears to be [[Randall]], considering the title text. A "dead man's switch" is any mechanism which is designed to activate if the user does not take any action. This is generally used to create a failsafe in case the user is incapacitated. For example, many exercise treadmills include a tether meant to connect the runner to the machine's base station. If the runner gets too far from the base station, the tether pulls a pin and the machine stops immediately. This way, if the runner has fallen or is struggling to keep up, the machine does not exacerbate an already unsafe situation. This "douchebag deadman switch" is predicated on Randall becoming somebody unrecognizable to his current self.

As a side note, the pace at which we're discovering exoplanets is accelerating. The first confirmed planet-sized mass outside our solar system was discovered in 1992, and it was ten years until we could celebrate the discovery of the 100th exoplanet. The distance from Earth to Moon (the farthest we have gone away from earth) is twenty four times the diameter of Earth. If the Earth was a Basketball, the farther we have gone would be three meters from it, as the basketball is about 12 cm. The Randall statement is either wrong or purposely wrong. A regulation men's basketball is 29.5 inches in circumference, or roughly 9.4 inches (~21cm) in diameter. Using the basketball as a model for the Earth, half an inch off the surface of the basketball is about 340km from the surface of the Earth - a decent approximation for the average orbital distance of the International Space Station and other recent targets of human spaceflight. I think that some of the memes deserve more investigation, namely: "Internets!", "You're the man now, dog" and "All your base are belong to us!".
