Can someone who has read the Silmarillion clarify what balrogs actually are? I'm not sure how accurate this is but I seem to recall that they were the lieutenants of Morgoth, and were not monsters but actually minor gods (Maiar?) 		+	::Well, perhaps call I'd call it a congruity. LOTR (directly inspiring this comic's main theme) was obviously also a big thing in the inspirational history of DF.
		+	::Though we know Randall is aware of DF (and of things DF in turn inspired, like Minecraft), at the time of this comic there weren't actual ladders in DF, so breaks that level of obvious connection. Staircases into the depths, yes, but it only even got ''stepladders'' about a decade after this comic (and their use is pretty much for aboveground orchards).
		+	::Ladders ''were'' always staple feature of Minecraft, back even into Beta versions (pre comic), with the same dig-deep problems, or possibly even more so as you the player-character falls into holes it digs a lot more than even the rather accident-prone "dorf" does in DF. Therefore the MC player mine themself down in places that (picked-up materials aside, with a jump-and-reblock move to increase height) could definitely be in a situation requiring the placing of ladder-blocks.
