I'm just a school teacher of Geography and English who isn't at all good at maths or anything IT-related and rather enjoys practical analogue activities, many of them outdoors, as well as playing lead guitar in an old-school rock band. So I might not look like a (stereo)typical ''xkcd'' fan at first glance, but I love it even so. Big fan of ''What If'', too, especially as in my position as a Geography teacher I often get asked similar questions that I'm more or less expected to answer on the spot, and Randall's great work actually helped me quite a bit then and again. Also, on second thought, I do dabble a bit in amateur stargazing and other such stuff amateurs are not meant to do, so there's that.

Btw. I loathe and despise everything connected with generative AI. The way it has been introduced to the public and is currently used I see a very black dystopian future ahead, where creativity, art, music, independent original thought in general is stifled because too many stupid people think it was obsolete. It's the one invention from the past one hundred years that makes me deeply concerned. Ok, so there's nuclear weapons, but they pretty much share the lead on humanity's all-time worst inventions list, My favourite dream is of a huge solar storm that deletes all this AI stuff along with the 90% of the internet that (in compliance with Sturgeon's Law) are crud. Since it'd delete the whole internet, I hope and pray webcomic creators will think of making analogue backup prints in time. Comics are the bulk of the good 10% if you ask me.

Btw.Btw. I've been a webcomic creator myself for many years, even though it all is currently on a prolonged hiatus. Unlike many creators who say this, I'm really going to bring it back one day.

Anyways, all of the above is why I don't identify as a nerd. I've got nothing against nerds, and I don't even think of it as an offensive term, but rather as one of respectful endearment. I just know I'm not one of them, OK? There's certain skill sets I'll never get up to a high enough level, either. However, I do value intellectual curiosity and an open mind above everything else, and I love an occasional challenge even outside of my comfort zone.
