Discussion

This may also be the same James in the title text of 950:_Mystery_Solved where it is jokenly suggested it may be an alias for Jimmy Hoffa -- or is the explanation simpler, like Jimmy is actually 'short' for James?

I do not think so. There is valid reason for using the real Jimmy, and he has nothing to do with Randall's friend.--Kynde (talk) 12:08, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Identity of James

I think I may have figured this mystery out: "James" is James Zetlen. He's an "old friend" of Randall's according to his about page. On the xkcd IRC channel (which you can read about here) he goes by "zetlen"; he used to go by "khmer" (or "khmer_at_work"), as evidenced by his hostname recorded in this xkcdb entry (among others). (About the xkcdb.) Check out quotes of "zetlen" and "khmer"; also take note of this quote, where he claims that he is the source of half of Randall's ideas. KangaroOS 06:41, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your investigative work, Kangaro! I've completely revamped the page, take a look at it now :)
