Sometimes this is because they are part of a [[:Category:Comic series|comic series]], where often the only part of the titles that changes is the episode number of the comic. A few comics share the exact same name, without being part of a series, such as:
*[[786: Exoplanets]] and [[1071: Exoplanets]]. Both images were originally named <code>exoplanets.png</code>. When the latter was published, this broke the former on [https://xkcd.com xkcd.com], so it was renamed <code>exoplanets_2010.png</code>.
*[[60: Super Bowl]] and [[1480: Super Bowl]]. No images broke because the first one is a {{w|JPG}} file and the second one is a {{w|PNG}} file.
*[[827: Business Idea]] and [[1721: Business Idea]]. When the first comic was released, the image file and the comic title were the same and there was a conflict both on [https://xkcd.com xkcd.com] and [[1721:_Business_Idea#Trivia|on this site]]. Randall renamed the second comic [[827: My Business Idea]] and the comic image <code>my_business_idea.png</code>.

There are also other pairs of comics where the only difference is that one of the titles is plural:
