It's possible that the room also means a coffin, since the comic seems to believe that many cops are killed the day before they retire. This might work in a sense that in the world the plot is tking place, ALL cops die the day before they retire. However, this is, without a day, illogical, since in the comic the cop had died TWO days before he retired
