Transcript

[At top left: A large wheel whose diameter is more than 4 times Cueball's height. Cueball is at the top, running backwards so that the wheel will roll towards a pole vaulting crossbar at the same height.]

[At top right: A long pole is bent into an arch going over a very high pole vaulting crossbar. Cueball is climbing up the left part, and is about 3/4 of the way to the top.]

[Along the bottom: A long pole has been bent into a circle, with the ends tied together. It's rolling left-to-right towards a very high poll vaulting crossbar, and three positions are shown. On the left Cueball is running to catch up with it. In the middle he has jumped and caught the left part of he pole. On the right, he has let go and is thrown into the air towards the crossbar.]

Fun fact: There are no limits on the length or diameter of the pole in pole vault.

[The first row consists of two drawings representing two different pole vaulting situations. In the first drawing, Cueball is balancing atop a log whose height is close to that of the crossbar and width is close to the length of the crossbar. Movement lines indicate that the log is approaching the crossbar and uprights. In the second drawing, Cueball is climbing toward the highest point of a pole which is curved in an arc that goes over the top of the uprights and ends on the ground opposite side of the uprights.]

[The second row consists of three drawings representing three different stages within the same vault. In the first drawing, the pole appears to be made of rubber or a similar material with the ends tied together so that it can roll. Cueball is running toward the rubber pole, movement lines indicate that that it is moving to the right, and arrows indicate that it is rotating clockwise. In the second drawing, movement lines indicate that Cueball has jumped onto the left side of the rolling rubber pole, which has rotated about 90 degrees clockwise. In the third drawing, the rubber poll has rotated another 135 degrees clockwise, and movement lines indicate that Cueball has jumped off the pole near the top and is approaching the crossbar.]
