Explanation[edit]

This is not a comic, but a webpage on xkcd.com

There are many other similar xkcd webpages, some of which are explained here. Explain xkcd is trying to decide how they should be treated. You are welcome to help us decide how we should categorise, call, or present these kinds of explanations. Kindly leave a comment here.

This page should not be categorized until we decide how to explain these non-comics (see discussion above).

This comic is only available on xkcd.com/yes. The earliest date this comic became available in the Wayback Machine is March 6, 2014 but it has likely been created before that date. In fact, according to a blog post published on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 by Alexis Ohanian, the cofounder of Reddit, Randall mentioned using the similar comic NO to help him use Reddit less. However, YES was likely created for a different purpose, as it wouldn't make much sense.

5:06:03 PM xkcd-dude: I hope you aren't hurt
5:06:13 PM xkcd-dude: but I've added a line to my hosts file
5:06:28 PM xkcd-dude: so reddit resolves to localhost
5:06:36 PM xkcd-dude: where this page is served: http://xkcd.com/no/

According to Ohanian, his personal blog was created "so [he wouldn't] clutter [their] reddit dev blog. [...] This blog used to be a glimpse into web 2.0 startup life, but now that [they]'ve sold out, it's an assortment of design/startup/geek-related things."
