In this comic, Randall and his friend are using the release notes as a form of chat service, instead of actual software change information. He says this is possible because the release notes are for apps that are no longer being maintained, so theoretically, there are not many people using the app.

I feel like this might be aimed at Google Hangouts. We started using it for our business several years ago, and every year it gets HARDER to use. 172.68.90.22 16:43, 22 June 2018 (UTC) SiliconWolf
I wonder if this was inspired by recent allegations about Paul Manafort using "foldering" for under-the-radar communication. 173.245.52.97 18:21, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank goodness they have lots of battery, because if they were low I wouldn't be able to concentrate on the comic. 108.162.215.70 02:20, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

"Trunk should be unlocked" is a software development reference.

- I'm not so sure. That is an entirely different sense of the word Trunk (car trunk vs tree trunk), and it doesn't have any real connection to the topic of the comic. It's most likely just a coincidence. HisHighestMinion (talk) 20:52, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- On the contrary, if the trunk is unlocked, whoever picks up his sunscreen is able to reply on the app notes. 172.68.98.34 (talk) (please sign your comments with ~~~~)
This makes me think of bad git commit names. As if they're updating the app and not bothering to actually describe what the update is, the modern git complaint.(Similar to https://xkcd.com/1296/). 162.158.93.111 00:18, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
A stands for Apple while the 3 stars stand for Samsung. Samsung means "3 stars" in Korean. Just a bit of fun fact. -- Otterman (talk) (please sign your comments with ~~~~)
Similarly, on Wikipedia or other similar wikis, people sometimes chat in edit summaries (i. e. update notes of wiki pages). ConscriptGlossary (talk) 02:20, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
