Comics by weekday   |   Monday  •  Tuesday  •  Wednesday  •  Thursday  •  Friday  •  Saturday  •  Sunday

Randall usually only posts new xkcd comics every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as the standard header text says. However, for several reasons, comics have been posted on all weekdays. In the early days of xkcd, it happened frequently, but it has become very rare since LiveJournal closed. Notable exceptions that can lead to off-set release dates, even in the weekend, are April Fools' Day comics, which Randall always tries to publish on April Fools' Day, book releases, which often fall on a Tuesday, and tributes to important people who recently passed away. The other weekdays are typically used in comic series, which sometime extend for five days in one week.

The first April Fools' Day comic to be released on a Tuesday, purposefully deviating from the standard release schedule, was 404: Not Found. Other Tuesday comics deviate from the standard to align with one of Randall's book releases, such as 1608: Hoverboard (celebrating the release of Thing Explainer), 2198: Throw (celebrating the release of How To), and 2672: What If? 2 Flowchart (celebrating the release of What If? 2).
