Osteoporosis affects your bones; it means they are fragile and susceptible to breakages. The word actually means "porous bones". Fractures can then be caused by simply coughing, sneezing or bending over. These fractures usually occur in the hip, wrist or spine and are often quite painful. In some cases, they can even be life-threatening.Bones are living tissue that constantly break down and re-build again. They contain numerous minerals such as phosphorous and calcium, and the fewer the minerals you have in your bones, the lower their density becomes.

There has long been a link between Type 1 diabetes and osteoporosis, and now it appears Type 2 diabetes is also linked. It was once believed Type 2 diabetics often had a heavier bone mass and this protected them from osteoporosis. However, people with Type 2 diabetes are more prone to fractures, often due to reduced vision and nerve damage.

These are pages that have an incomplete explanation or are missing something important. (This includes categories that have been created recently and need to be filled with relevant pages.) New comics are currently marked as incomplete automatically, to be removed later once their explanation is in a pretty good state. To add pages to this category, place {{incomplete}} at the top of their explanation and give a reason, such as: {{incomplete|The explanation of the title text is missing.}}. We have a different category for incomplete transcripts.
